Calf sheds Design overview

Raising young animals is a painstaking and responsible work of a livestock breeder. The health of the livestock and its full development depends on how comfortable and correct the housing conditions are.

It is generally accepted that it is necessary to arrange almost incubator-like conditions for the young. This is fundamentally wrong. The lack of natural influence negatively affects the development and formation of livestock. Recently, the method of open keeping or with a standard microclimate is increasingly used.

It is very rare to see more than 100 calves in one year on farms. This is due to the peculiarities of breeding and impregnation of livestock. Usually, all livestock are of different ages and include several groups of different sizes. It is for such cases that typical projects of calf farmers were created.

They take into account the unevenness of the herd and have an internal division of premises into pens. These are spaces where separate groups of young are kept. As a rule, they have separate walks and autonomous feeding systems. This is very important to ensure the normal development of livestock at various stages of maturation.

Typical calf rearing designs also include a quarantine area with stalls housing one sick calf at a time. Such areas are more hygienically protected and are always separated by capital partitions.
