Production of threaded connections

Production of threaded connections

Threaded connections are widely used in the construction of various machines (more than 60% of all parts of modern machines have a thread). A threaded surface is formed by the helical movement of a flat contour of a certain shape along a cylindrical or conical surface. As a result of this movement, a cylindrical or conical thread is obtained.

Production of threaded connections overview

Carving can be obtained both on external and internal surfaces. Threads are divided into general-purpose and special threads based on their operational characteristics, i.e., by field of application.

According to the cross-sectional profile, they can be divided into triangular, trapezoidal, rectangular, round.

According to the general shape of the threaded surface - cylindrical and conical. By the number of events - one-, two-, three- and multi-event.

According to the direction of the turns - on the right (screwed clockwise) and left (screwed counterclockwise). Depending on the units of measurement used, threads are divided into metric and inch.

Overview of metal threading and fastening techniques

Threads for general purposes include:

  • 1

    Fasteners (metric, inch) - are used to provide removable connections, the main requirement for which is to ensure the strength of the connection and maintain the tightness of the joint during operation;

  • 2

    Kinematic (trapezoidal and rectangular). Such threads are used on the running screws of machine tools, measuring devices, jacks, and presses. They are designed to transmit movement and effort. Rectangular threads have the lowest frictional losses, but are not standardized and are not recommended for use due to non-technological manufacturing. Persisting threads are designed for the perception of one-sided large loads and serve to convert rotational movement into rectilinear in presses, jacks. The main requirement for these threads is to ensure accurate and smooth movement, in many cases the ability to withstand heavy loads;

  • 3

    Pipe and fitting - cylindrical and conical, which are used to connect pipes in the oil refining industry, plumbing equipment. The main requirement for these threads is to ensure tightness and strength of the connection.

  • 4

    The general requirements for all types of threading are the provision of screwability regardless of the manufactured parts without binding and reliable performance of the specified functions.
